Season's player ratingsUpdated: June 27th, 2007
Player-of-the-season Richard Dunne is top of this year’s player ratings.
Surprisingly, Emile Mpenza beats Joey Barton into second place, though I suspect part of that is down to our gratitude in finally having a striker who knows where the goal is. Out-of-contract Nicky Weaver has shown he probably deserves a new deal after finishing in 6th place, two places above Isaakson.
The figures are compiled after each game using the average ratings taken from the media and fans on talkboards. The ratings for each match can be found in the Stats & Squad section here. I’ve also updated the contract details there following yesterday’s news that eight players have been released.

The second table provides a good indication of Pearce’s failings as a manager. Only three of the top ten rated players are Pearce signings, compared to six of the bottom ten. Three of the bottom four rated players were brought in by Pearce while the other, Stephen Jordan, suffered a dramatic loss of form after Pearce took charge.
The table also suggests we owe a debt of gratitude to Joe Royle. As well as signing our three-time player of the season, Royle also brought in academy boss Jim Cassell (profile here), whose signings take up four of the top ten places.
