A visit from the Jersey MobUpdated: June 27th, 2007

This site has been popping up in some unlikely places recently.

Yesterday I noticed I was getting visitors from Uniwatchblog.com, an incredibly detailed American site devoted to sports jerseys.

Judging from the numbers that came from there it has a pretty big readership, and helped push this site’s traffic to a record 2,725 unique visitors on Wednesday.

It’s surprised me how many sites there are solely about football shirts. Colours of Football is a talkboard devoted to the subject, while Football Shirt Culture is an excellent site which also delves into the history of football shirts. Actually, we caused that site some technical problems after I posted a link to it a few months ago, referred to here.

And looking through the superb Historicalkits.co.uk produces some interesting finds.

I didn’t realise that Liverpool and Everton switched colours in the 1890s. From 1891-5 Everton played in red tops before reverting to blue, while in 1892 Liverpool played in a pale blue and white top that used to be worn by Everton until 1890. It appears the switch was tied up with the clubs’ financial history, which is explained here.

The site also has a page showing the worst ever kits, while there’s more shocking designs here.

Surprisingly, they’ve not included this all-time classic Bolton shirt from 1884.
